A few words from board member Philip Oswald
The privilege of witnessing positive change.
I have had the considerable good fortune of being associated with Scope for over 11 years now, with the privilege of being a Board member for the past six years. I have been a member of a number of Board Committees during that time and I am currently a member of the Board’s People and Governance Committee.
Whilst I have seen significant change in our organisation over the years, the one thing that has remained constant has been the wonderful dedication of our staff towards all our clients whom we support.
Our April Board meeting was held at our North Division office in Glenroy and prior to the meeting, myself and three of my fellow Directors Joanne Stubbs, Marcell Judkins and Mark Chittleborough attended an afternoon session learning all about our Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre. The afternoon was hosted by Denise West, our North Division General Manager and Katie Lyon, Manager Capacity Building Services who prepared an extremely interesting agenda for us.
Zane McKenzie gave us a great insight into his role as a Disability Educator in the Education Team and we were very impressed with the work he and his team is doing in the area of eLearning, both for Scope’s clients and the broader community. Danni Hall gave us the benefit of her considerable experience in support co-ordination and Mark Di Marco talked to us about the challenges faced in supporting clients with behaviours of concern.
The highlight of the afternoon was witnessing Go Kids Physiotherapist and Coordinator Elise Rizzo fit a Hart Walker to a young boy and watching him, along with his mother, take his very first steps. As a Board member, there can be no greater reward than witnessing such a positive moment in that family’s life.
