Accessible Information
The Accessible Information Service has significantly increased its capacity to respond to customer requests over the last few years. We currently deliver approximately 120 documents, consultancy projects and training sessions per annum. We work with a many businesses and services including Consumer Affairs Victoria, the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the City of Greater Bendigo council. We have produced a variety of documents into alternative formats including research consent forms, action plans, fact sheets, website content and guidelines.

This year, Golden Plains Shire Council received some consultancy and support from our team, completing an audit of council’s written communications online and in print. This was a successful new way of working with our customers to build their capacity and skills in Easy English and Plain Language.
We also delivered our one day ’Introduction to Easy English’ course and the two day writing course to disability and non-disability sector organisations and business in metropolitan and regional Victoria, as well as interstate.
Anna Eglitzky partnered with Sue Lang from the Victorian Electoral Commission, to present a paper at iASSID on making written information more accessible for people with intellectual disabilities titled “Supporting adults with developmental disabilities to access written information” which was well received.
The service continues to develop quality products to support customers with developing Easy English and Plain Language documents. One of resources currently in production is an eLearning training product on “How to write Easy English”. It enables businesses and services to easily and effectively train staff in an alternative way.
