Shining the spotlight on communication disabilities

Scope’s Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) has been working on some exciting projects that support people with communication disabilities.

Communication Access goes global at the 2018 ISAAC conference

We’re gearing up for a buzzing conference on the Gold Coast this July that focuses on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC is for people who cannot rely on speech to get their message across and includes strategies and tools like Key Word Sign and non-electronic communication aids.

The event, hosted by ISAAC, is the 18th in the series but the first ever to be held in Australia. More than 1,000 delegates from all over the world will attend. Scope team members will speak on a range of topics affecting people with complex communication needs and host a colourful, interactive stand. Highlights include the launch of Scope’s #AskForChange campaign that asks businesses to embrace Communication Access, a prize draw and Instagram selfies with the team! Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to follow the campaign and get involved.

Free state-wide program for children with communication difficulties

Scope’s Kids Chat program is for those who support children with communication difficulties, such as parents and speech pathologists. Scope speech pathologists offer a specialised package of services, including state-wide regional workshops and consultations, advice on accessing communication aids under the NDIS and the provision of free, customised communication aids.

Recent Kids Chat 2 You workshops in Frankston and Dandenong were so well received that the team will be delivering extra consults to meet increasing demand. Visit the online Kids Chat hub and contact us today to book your place at a free workshop near you! This program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Bowness Family Foundation, Scope’s Board and other private donors.
