A Few Words From Board Member David Lloyd Jones

My name is David and I have been a Scope Board member since 2011. I am proud to be associated with Scope and value enormously the opportunity to be a part of this successful organisation.

As Board members, one of our roles is to review the Strategic plan that our CEO, Dr Jenny Fitzgerald and the management team of Scope have put in place. This plan sets up the framework for how Scope will proceed over the next couple of years under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Recently all the directors and management team got together for the day to review this plan. It was inspiring to see how much thought and effort had been undertaken in producing and rolling out this plan.

Another role that I have as director is visiting the various sites that we operate across the state. It helps me to get a better understanding of our clients and their needs and also the geographic areas that we operate in. Recently we visited a supported accommodation house in Mount Waverley which uses assistive technology, and I was amazed to see how little changes like automatic doors and window blinds can make a difference to our clients in their day to day living.

It is often these seemingly small ways to increase independence and control that are so important in supporting people with a disability to live the life they choose.
