The NDIS is here
A message from Jennifer Fitzgerald.
In July, we marked a significant milestone with the beginning of the full roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The NDIS will provide people with the opportunity to become more empowered to make choices in how they live and to have the ability for greater participation in the community.
It will provide people with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to achieve their goals.
Goal setting and planning are important steps to ensuring people get the right supports.
Scope is committed to providing people we support with the tools and information needed to prepare for transition to the NDIS.
We continue to roll out NDIS information sessions for customers and families, in partnership with independent advocacy organisation VALID. These sessions provide an overview of the NDIS and how it works.
Following the sessions, people we support will also have the opportunity to attend workshops to learn more about goal setting.
We are looking forward to sharing stories of success from the people we support as the rollout progresses.
The underlying principles of NDIS are based on the fact that people with a disability have the same rights as everyone else to live the life they choose.
This is very much in keeping with Scope’s own mission and values.
This year, we are taking the next step in embedding a framework of human rights throughout the organisation.
People we support are playing a central role in the development of this framework, with focus groups already completed across the organisation.
The framework will equip Scope’s staff with strategies to ensure that the human rights of every person we support are recognised and actively promoted in everything we do.
It is truly a new era and exciting time for all of us.
