Foundations and Grants Update

Maintaining muscle strength and tone is important for people who experience mobility issues due to the impact of their disability.

Now, thanks to several grants recently received by Scope, customers attending our Day and Lifestyle Options (DLO) in Manifold Heights (Geelong) and Chelsea are able to access specialised equipment to help keep their muscles moving.

With the endorsement of Brett Gorell from Rex Gorell Honda in Geelong, Manifold Heights DLO received a grant from The Honda Foundation in October last year and soon after they were excited to take delivery of a fabulous new MOTOmed exercise system. This is similar to an exercise bike but is a passive exercise machine which operates without the person in it having to move their legs or arms.

Brett visited Manifold Heights DLO in December and was delighted to see the MOTOmed machine in action first-hand. Scope customer, Mark, was one of the first people to use the new equipment. Mark happily demonstrated its use to Brett whilst DLO Coordinator, Andrew Barlow, explained how the machine worked and its importance to people with multiple and complex disabilities.

Customers of Chelsea DLO are also beneficiaries of the use of a MOTOmed machine. This was made possible by a Community Grant received from the CommBank Staff Foundation in December.

Application for the grant is by invitation only and Scope was delighted when Mordialloc  Commonwealth Bank Branch Manager, Steven Price nominated Chelsea DLO to participate in the grant program. Steven has an interest in disability and together with his team, has been supporting Chelsea DLO for several years.

“The MOTOmed machines are a wonderful addition to the services our DLOs provide and are  invaluable in helping our customers improve their muscle mobility and maintain overall well-being. We are very grateful to The Honda Foundation and CommBank Staff Foundation for their support.”
